Jalapaan (Taking Water through Nostrils)

Jalapaan (Taking Water through Nostrils)

This is another important Yogic process. It involves drinking water through the two nostrils. Sutra Neti clears the nasal passages and Jal Neti washes to free them of all dirt and germs. It is after this that water or milk can be taken through nostrils.

Procedure – To start, sit in the crow pose. Take fresh or warm saline water (as suggested by Acharya) in the specifically designed vessel. Now insert its nozzle in one of the nostrils with vessel held in the corresponding hand, tilting the head  a title backward. Now raise and tilt the vessel carefully regulating  the  flow  of water  to  avoid  coughing. Draughts are let in the stomach as in normal drinking. Mouth is kept open for slow breathing. After half the water has been taken, the rest of it should be taken through the other nostril.

Milk can also be taken through the nostrils in the same manner as described above.

Benefit- The great curative value of this process is found in the old Ayurvedic Scriptures. It is beneficial in Nasal Congestion, tonsils, throat, sore, catarrh, nervous weakness, grey hair, weak eye sight etc. It makes one look bright and beautiful and ensures longevity.
